analysis of our sequence - changing the sequence
after reviewing our sequence we have decided the change the start of it where there is a black space allowing the news reporters audio to have a solo. this is because we feel although it could be very dramatic, this space here could allow us to introduce a new character and allow the audience to begin to engage with someone early on. we can also use this character we introduce to emphasize the importance of the kidnapping that takes place

Evaluation Question 5 - Addrssing/Attracting the audience
My audience being 14-26 is quite a young audience, this age group or bracket like action and excitement and we followed exactly that.our opening sequence is a chase, one with tension building as the action awaits. from very early on in our sequence it was established something was going to take place or more accurately had taken place. the audio at the begging of the news report was used as a tool to set the felling of drama and commotion and was a great build up for the following action scene which was in fact a flashback that went back in time to show what the news report was about.....
the anticipation of pain created a fear that always sparks emotion and excitement in our target audience, this has been proven to interest our target audience being young people, people from urban and social groups living lifestyles similar to those being represented and people that are firmly engaged in the hype that surrounds this whole street culture.
Our storyline attracts our audience because this said kidnapping ignites excitement and enigma so early in the story and this is only the beginning. our story idea is that this kidnapping sparks an all our war in this local area causing riots and mayhem between these two gangs. the theme of mayhem and destruction is also a theme that has been very successful with our target audience in that past being their age, lifestyles and that our core audience will be male.
i wouldn't say ,y film has a narrative twist as it begins with a shock and surprise which doesn't give the viewer time to be twisted or blindsided because it is the first thing they see, our film is about violence, action, destruction and danger and we conform to these expectations within this opening scene. the moment the kidnapper enters the frame it is made clear to them that something is due to happen very soon, the positions and roles of the characters begin to be built...
Mise En Scene - the road sign is a key signifier that the violence is going to be area related, all adding to and illustrating the idea of street cultures and area related gang crimes, feeding the audience all the information they need to piece the story together but subtly.....
this shows the setting
our switched between the two characters paths or angles simultaneously allows the viewer to understand the intentions or current mind set
our whole sequence is a built up to enigma, it is all a build up to the kidnapping and it ends of the kidnapping to keep the viewer guessing what happens next.
the characters clothes support the theme and attract the urban audience as they are both wearing hooded coats which is in line with the street culture or urban them....
the soundtrack is very key in addressing and attracting our audience as it is applied to our audience in every way. it is a grime/rap/urban that gives a street underground kind of feel which is suited to the audience we are targeting, it matches our storyline to do with area affiliation and gangs dedication to postcodes and it is also quit lively and jumpy which keeps up the excitement which we need for a sequence involving action and violence......

Evaluation Question 1 - Convetions of film
We have attempted to illustrate and use many of the conventions of film. our film genre is action thriller about gang crime, within this urban theme we know the Establishment of a dramatic storyline is very important, and in order to attract viewers this must be established as early as possible but in a way the creates enigma so they wish to continue viewing. the title then became quite important........
This title 'Eye For an Eye' has connotations of revenge and drama and therefore immediately informing the reader that there will be action and commotion, this is important when attempting to attract viewers. we understand each genre can have a specific set of viewers some being wider than others, so in order to ensure you capture the attention of your audience the title is key.
when establishing the storyline we had a audio narrative in the form of a news report. this is a strong part in our narrative structure through sound. the news reports states a kidnapping has happened then we proceed to show the kidnapping which is illustrating that our film is structured in a way the means we go back in time to explain what has happened. this means that the part of our sequence where the kidnapping takes place isn't in real time however the news report audio is. the actual part where the kidnapping takes place is a flashback.
through camera angles we have followed the conventions of film with our establishing shot, this first shot shows you where it takes place and is often used to begin films or scenes.
our film is not the classic narrative pattern, the classic narrative pattern would be everything is going fine, then something goes wrong and then they finally resolve it. we decided to begin with the disruption then move on to the resolution much later so ours starts off with something bad/dramatic happening because we felt this would be more hard hitting and attention grabbing which i stated was one of my aims in my previous posts on planning. this means for the majority of the later film there would be little equilibrium as this incident viewer wouldn't is set to spark an all our war in the local area. this will keeps the viewers engaged and interested to see the end result.
the setting isn't necessarily typical of our genre or theme of gangs and street crime which would probably be a dark scene by a block of council flats or on a dark ally way, however we didn't have the equipment or the correct lighting to be able to execute this scene in the night time which meant we must do it in the day. then we thought we would do it in a quiet place where although it doesn't look dark, rough or scary it looks quiet enough for the kidnapping to take place during the day. this was once again in a bid to remain realistic..............
the style of our film is made clear or is added to by the soundtrack, the soundtrack is a grime/rap song which helps to establish that street culture and represents the urban theme that revolves around crime and gangs that represent certain areas. in fact the song is self say 'south london' as it is a dedication to a certain area or part of london which is very inline with our storyline being about rival gangs who represent and defend the local area.
we intended to show a certain personality and and characteristics through the behavior of the kidnapper whilst the event is taking place. this was shown though some of the framing making him look sneaky and devious in his pursuit of the victim, it shows him hiding and observing the 'vulnerable girl'.......

the original idea was to show the two characters in a parallel way attempting to use cross cutting showing them simultaneously emphasizing on there difference in intentions and mind sets. this was short lived as the characters quickly became too close in proximity for this to be effective so we chose to use the music through the form of the headphones as a tool to illustrate that the girl was unaware of the approaching kidnapper.
enigma was created in the action of the the kidnapping as it finishes on the point of view shot of the victim as the kidnapper covers the eyes of the victim. this will leave the viewers wondering what happens to the girl? why was she kidnapped? and many other things, this type of 'mini' cliff hanger can be very effective in an opening sequence...........

the feeling of sympathy for the victim was building through her being so oblivious to the hooded person approaching her, the frame which caught them both emphasized the malice and bad intentions of the kidnapper which will build sympathy and will lead the viewer to feel sorry for this girl or hope she's alright which all adds to them wishing to continue viewing in order to find out what has happened to her......

Comentary on preliminary sequence
From our preliminary sequence I've learnt the significance of continuity editing, and how this can this can effective in allowing you to speed up your editing without moving on from the scene too quickly. this can help you avoid viewer fatigue without losing the storyline.
In Hines sight i feel we could of used more cut aways to give a better feel of the settings and surroundings. I also feel we could have had a better ending, the build up was good was but i felt the ending was sufficient or powerful enough.
I think there was something missing on the sound side, i think a non-digetic soundtrack could have been used as a tool to set the scene and would have taken away some of that awkward silence, i don't feel the background noise was natural enough.
I feel we could have been more organised in have more complete or more detailed storyboards and we may have got a wider range of shots done.
I was proud of how clearly we portrayed the storyline, i feel there was no room for misunderstanding or complicating the viewer as it was executed in a way that is very clear.
Although, t do think its possible we could have chosen a better location to film on, one that allowed for the storyline to be slightly more extended or a certain part emphasised.

Response To The Group Idea
the group idea is good i feel, it is something that can be effective and realistic within the equiptment and resources we have. i think its more important to have a believable product that is done well than to have an over that top idea that you cannot execute well enough. i thinnk our idea is one that is simple but can be hard hitting if done well

Group Opening Sequence - planning 7
Although this scene would most likely happen at night time in real life and doing it in night time will help to build tension and make it believable to the reader we have to do the film to the best of our abilities. due to this we decided to do at day time because we'll be lacking the correct lighting to make the scene affective.

Group Opening Sequence - planning 5
in reflection i do feel we have a good concept however it is something has been done before in many different ways so we have to make sure we think of a way to portray this kidnapping in a way original and exciting to avoid viewer fatigue. this will come through the camera angles we use and the way we portray the build up to the kidnapping. A story line like this can be difficult because its one where a lot of the time the viewer can guess what the sequence is leading to however you must still film it in a way that builds tension and remains to entertain the viewer never the less. this concept being well covered in a way is a good thing because it allows us to do a lot of research and ensure we execute this concept successfully or should i say realistically so they can believe the story and feel that fear of tension

Group Opening Sequence - planning 4
We decided to use different camera angles ranging from POV, close ups, medium shot, medium/long, front shots, up shots and side or diagonal shots. we was all in agreement that the sequence should begin with an establishing shot to show where is was to take place.

Group Opening Sequence - planning 3
After deciding to continue brainstorming for a theme i decided to use one element of the 1st idea but change the theme a bit. we came up with the idea that we could keep the idea of parallel travel between two people building up the a climax. as we know in an opening sequence its vital to have something that hooks the interest of the viewer, so we kept the theme of the camera views and angles in the lead up the the the main storlyline establishing finale shot. we decided to change the climax to a kidnapping

Group Opening sequence - planning 1
originally i came up with a storyline which we then planned. the idea was a journey of different people going to one destination. the three journeys were to be shown simultaneously building tension as to where they were travelling and why it was so important for these people to get there before the other people did. the plan was to have something really dramatic as opening sequences always or often have something that grips the reader in order to keep them intrested enough to continue watching. we thought we also needed something dramatic in orde to have an effective oppening sequence however we couldnt think of anything good enough that we could do within our limited props and facilities. because our genre being action/thriller is a serious one it must be made to be very realistic. we could have opted to use the tool of a cliff hanger but didnt feel we had given enough of a storyline yet for a cliff hanger to be feasable so we chose to continue brainstorming for ideas
