opening sequence - research

this opening sequence instantly sets the scene. showing the 2 main characters of the film having the 1sr conversation of the film and in this conversation showing they are unified through their agreement and support in eachother. the car shown and the background on the 1st medium/long shot shows where they are regionally, and that they are in the USA then the big speakers come out and the action starts immediately giving the viewer an idea as to what the film will contain grabbing the viewers attention early on is very important, the concept of this will be useful to me when making my own film sequence.

title sequence - sound analysis

this sequence is a great demonstration of the use of sound in an opening or title sequence. the partnership between the sound and the visuals is vital when attempting to create an atmosphere. in this case the music is building tension, it seems to be progressing whilst seeming to become more and more manic. along with this the visuals are also building as something or someone seems to be unfolding. the screen is also very dark and is black for the majority of the time which is matched to the choice of soundtrack, just from the soundtrack you get the feel that the film will me a dangerous, action packed, thriller type film.

Credits Sequence - Analysis - Stranger Than Fiction

This is a very edgy, unsual film and the ending credits are no different. they are colourful,  there is animated pictures coming up at different angles and all in all it is a very energetic credit sequence. usually a credit sequence would calm things down a little but this one ups the case in a bid to cotinue the theme of unusuality or being strange.

Title sequence - Analysis - Fringe

the soundtrack on this title sequence is very effective, it helps portray the genre. the genre to this programme is sci-fi thriller and this soundtrack helps to give that feeling. the track seems to be building as the sequence goes on as if tension is building up until something significant happens. the track also has that eerie mystical or magical feel which is in line with the theme of science fiction.

the mise en scene is used very a deliberately to illustrate the sci-fi element to the programme as the very first frame we see is of four or five words on the screen, one of the biggest and most dominant being 'teleportation' catching the eye of the viewer and instantly allowing them to know this is a fictional series.

the animated titles are kept fluent and lively avoiding viewer fatigue, the style of the animations also allows for slight enigma as its not exactly clear what is going on in the sense of what the story line is or whats happening but at the same time it looks very interesting and makes the genre very clear. this will help capture there intended audience with the possibility of capturing the attention of viewers that wouldn't usually watch this genre but the sequence has made them curious to see what its about.

When a stranger calls - opening sequence

This opening sequence is a great example of setting the theme or genre of the film very early on through the none digetic sound of backing track. the spooky, eerie in a way tension building backing track allows the viewer to become immediately aware that the genre of this particular film is horror. the sound starts before any images are shown, the title when a stranger calls comes up large on the screen; this then fades into a very still view of a road at a diagonal angle. A few seconds later a person turns the corner in the distance and begins to walk down the road, this establishes that this person is a main character and makes us curious to see who this person is and what they look like as the camera angle does not change to imform us of this. this is an esttablishing shot however it does not reveal the identity of the character straight away which keeps the interest of the viewer

Legally Blonde - Opening Sequence Analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueH1FAbgxqE

Legally blonde is a romantic comedy, clearly set to be dominated or concentrated on the female side of the romantic pair that im sure will become apperent later. it was clear that this was going to be very femanine from the credits, they are curly and gurlish almost glowing pink. this credits begin to come up over the main character doing her hair, this highlighted her long, curly shining blonde hair begins to build the theme of this character being glamerous and attractive. by not showing this characters face straight away keeps the viewers interested.

This sequence is a montage, it compresses and shortens a certain period of time. in this time the main character does her hair, washes, shaves and does her nails; getting ready whilst and evolope is on its way to her. the journey the letter takes is shown simultaneously with her getting ready. this establishes the scene by showing the local area, it astablishes the main characters name 'Elle', and then establishes her love interest as this letter is from him.

Children Of Men - Opening Sequence Analysis

Children of Men begins with a sound bridge of digetic sound, the screen remains black whilst we begin to hear a news report of the death of the so called "youngest person on the planet". this becomes apperent from the first shot which is of a room full of people who are gathered round watching this new broadcast on a tv. this grabs the interest of the views instantly as something really bad has happened and the characters are reacting as if this is very significant. then we see that the boy who died lived from 2009-2027 which shows us both that this is sent in the future and that there is something unusual going on because they refered to a 19 year old as the youngest person on the planet. the people in the room are looking up at the tv screen giving the feeling of importance of what they are looking up at. the camera angle is coming slighty from the side causing the characters to be looking past the camera, this makes you feel as if you are there; almost as if you are standing behind the counter in the shop. this allows you to become involved with the film in the sense that you begin to feel the tension of the situation that is being explained by the news reporter. the camera then begins to track clive owen as he begins to move towards the exit of this shop, this tells us he is either one of or the main character in this film. As he approaches the door a red bus passes by which sets the scene as this is a london bus. shortly after 'london 16th november 2027' appears on the screen. there is also a policeman which shows us this is set in london by the uniform. clive owen stops to pour him self a drink, seemed to be alcohol which is giving us an insight to his character traits; maybe he is an alcoholic? the camera slowly pans around clive owen as he in stationary, at this point is it peaceful; the roads are busy but it is still fairly peaceful. tension is building as the camera pans around clive owen then when it reaches the reverse angle which is now facing back towards the shop, we then hear that huge digetic sound 'BANG' and some kind of explosion has occured. we now wish to find out what has happened. this is clearly set to be a thriller.
