When a stranger calls - opening sequence

This opening sequence is a great example of setting the theme or genre of the film very early on through the none digetic sound of backing track. the spooky, eerie in a way tension building backing track allows the viewer to become immediately aware that the genre of this particular film is horror. the sound starts before any images are shown, the title when a stranger calls comes up large on the screen; this then fades into a very still view of a road at a diagonal angle. A few seconds later a person turns the corner in the distance and begins to walk down the road, this establishes that this person is a main character and makes us curious to see who this person is and what they look like as the camera angle does not change to imform us of this. this is an esttablishing shot however it does not reveal the identity of the character straight away which keeps the interest of the viewer
